Undergraduate Program -- Health and Human Services Concentration The Human Services major (15 courses) has two prerequisite courses, SSC 103 “Introduction to Health and Human Service” and PSY 101, “Introduction to Psychology”. It incorporates introductory social science, statistics and research methods, human biology, ethics, and specialized courses on human service topics developed specifically for this curriculum Three specialized tracks are available: Two semesters of SSC 485-486, “Practicum In Health and Human Service” are required in “Community Mental Health” and “Social Gerontology”. Practicum and Internship options are available in “Early Childhood Studies”. Human Service majors in “Early Childhood Studies ”who are interested in a career in teaching at the early childhood or childhood level (birth - 6th grade) should follow this link to UB's Teacher Education Institute for information about this career option. An ideal route toward teaching would involve this major, the Minor in Education and an application to the TEI Program for graduate study. This program enables strong Human Service students to enter the MSW curriculum in the School of Social Work after their 93rd undergraduate credit. This six week summer program provides an opportunity to study multiple aspects of the health care system of Brazil. There is nothing like examination of a very different health care system to suggest some of the strengths and weakness of our own. Professor Debra Street of the Sociology Department will be offering an opportunity for Health and Human Service students to spend the Spring 2010 semester studying in London. This experience will include study of the health and human system in England and practical internship experience. Information about the Semester in London is available at the link.
